NORDIC WAVE – Swedish-Iranian director and actress Maryam Moghaddam, along with her husband Behtash Saneeha, has been sentenced to over two years in prison in Iran, according to Sveriges Radio.
The charges stem from their film A Little Piece of the Cake, which Iranian authorities claim violates censorship laws and spreads propaganda.
Moghaddam, who has not yet decided whether to appeal the verdict, faced restrictions last year when she was barred from entering Iran during the film’s world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival. Later, in September, her Swedish passport was confiscated by Iranian authorities during the film’s theatrical release in Sweden.
Despite the challenges, the film has reached international audiences, including screenings in Norway, highlighting its global impact amidst the controversy.
