An authoritative group of leaders of NATO countries in the Baltic Sea region will gather in Helsinki today to discuss ways to improve the security of the Baltic Sea.
President Alexander Stubb and Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal will host the meeting at the Presidential Palace.
Among those arriving are NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte , German Chancellor Olaf Scholz , Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk , Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen , Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson , and European Commission Vice-President Henna Virkkunen .
The meeting was sparked by the submarine cable breaks that occurred at Christmas and other suspicious cable damage that occurred during the year.
